MANUAL THERAPY & REHABILITATION (PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA)
Enrolment Has Now Closed. Click Here For More Information.
The Manual Therapy & Rehabilitation programme educates and trains students to become therapists who focus on the treatment of soft tissue – muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and consequently joints. Therapists use highly skilled, hands-on techniques to diagnose, prevent or treat underlying conditions and problems. It is based on health science principles and works alongside other health care practices. Course themes include Applied Health Science, Manual Therapy, Professional Capabilities and Clinical Practice, providing a well-rounded yet flexible curriculum. Students can transition to their new careers as highly trained Manual Therapists, treating the wider community, as soon as they graduate. This qualification affords you the option of joining a practice or setting up on your own terms, working for yourself.
This course is offered in Dublin, Limerick and Galway.
Students receive their Certificate following Stage 1 and their Professional Diploma following Stage 2.
HOW THE COURSE WORKS
At the Institute we use a wide variety of teaching and learning approaches that promote active learning, preparing you for your journey as a life-long learner through your professional career. Our courses are offered through an ‘extended pathway’. This means you can study while you earn. An extended pathway makes the course accessible to mature students and to those who are engaged in full-time employment.
The flexible structure of our programme allows you to tailor the course to meet your needs and it enables you to adapt your pace of study to changing personal circumstances.
Our flexible study options will help you in a number of ways:
- to remain in employment while you study
- to finance your own study
- to spread the costs over a longer period
- to fit your studies around family and work commitments
- to ease back in to learning if you have been out of education for a while
At the Institute we employ continuous assessment as an important tool to help measure progress, manage your workload and bring the right focus to your study. It also provides the framework for your feedback.HOW TO APPLY

CLINICAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
Clinical Placement is an important feature of our programmes as this is where students gain competence and confidence in managing a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, including sporting injuries. This is where you develop as a practitioner, applying the knowledge and skills learned in class.
The quality of supervision and the variety of clinical experience is unrivalled in Ireland. It ensures that on graduation you are work-ready and have the confidence to establish your own private practice. Emphasis is also placed on managing a case load, promotion and marketing – all valuable skills for building a satisfying and rewarding career.
Clinical placement is available in all three IPTAS campuses – Dublin, Limerick and Galway. Students complete one clinic block in Stage 1 (one evening per week for five weeks) and four clinic blocks in Stage 2.
Please see below for the four core themes of this course and the various modules of study within.
Manual Therapy & Rehabilitation
IPTAS graduates have an ideal opportunity to achieve an ambition of becoming self-employed and setting up in private practice. They can organise their own working hours and this feature facilitates a gradual transition from the old regular job to a new, fulltime practice.
Many prospective students, with a qualification in massage or rehabilitation are attracted to IPTAS programmes, having themselves experienced the benefits of treatment or because they see it as way of broadening their skills and the range of services they will be able to offer to potential clients.
Graduates of the Institute have chosen to work in many different areas including medical centres and primary care centres, health and fitness centres, chiropractic clinics and as consultants in musculoskeletal health with large companies. Some institute graduates teach in Further and Higher Education.A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MANUAL & REHABILITATION THERAPIST
