Our course is offered through an ‘extended pathway’. This means you can study while you earn. An extended pathway makes the course accessible to mature students and to those who are engaged in full-time employment as well as to school leavers.
Classes are held on weekends – seventeen of them, falling between late September and early June of each year. (See Class Dates.)
A class weekend means Saturday from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm and Sunday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Usually these weekends happen at the rate of two per month but still allow a break for Christmas and Easter.
During class weekends, about half of the instruction is theoretical and half is practical where you observe and practise on fellow-students in Technique Class.
Our unique Student Clinic is central to your learning experience at the Institute.
The Student Clinic runs year-round, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings between 4.30 pm and about 9.00 pm. First year students attend two clinic blocks in their first year. A block consists of five consecutive Mondays / Wednesdays / Fridays. This means that if you agree to schedule your block to start on Monday the 1st, you will be doing your second evening on the 8th, third on the 15th and finishing on the 29th. This, and all other aspects of our course are explained in detailed at our Information and Evaluation Days held each Summer.
Students are expected to spend approximately fifteen hours per week on self-directed learning and group study. This is in addition to timetabled classroom hours.
