The Institute of Physical Therapy is the founder of the physical therapy profession in Ireland. Our innovative and pioneering work in developing the course has been formally recognised and the school is an accepted centre of excellence in the teaching of manual skills and bodywork techniques.
The extended pathway model which allows you study while you earn, has made this profession accessible to mature students from a wide variety of backgrounds and a broad range of ages. Some come to us as mature students with no more than a Leaving Certificate and others only after gaining their primary degree. For still others the course is a chance to re-train and perhaps fulfill a lifetime ambition of working, or becoming self-employed, in a caring profession. Gaining a formal recognition is rightly a priority for students returning to education.
Many students choose this as a second career path, coming from occupations as diverse as accountancy and meteorology, and from bricklaying to banking.
Within three months of graduation more than 95% of graduates find employment within their new profession. Many of our graduates are now leaders in their field. (See Jobs & Careers.)
The Institute sustains its relationship beyond graduation with the provision of seminars, mentoring, support and Continuing Professional Development.
Institute Clinics – in Stillorgan and Limerick - provide students with an unrivalled opportunity for work in real-life situations with members of the public. This gives the widest possible experience and best preparation for private practice. In the Student Clinic, your learning is fully supported by experienced and Senior Clinicians. You have your own client list to manage under supervision.
